DHS to use LIDAR for surveillance

LIDAR is a cool technology.  It allows an large area to be mapped in extreme detail.

LIDAR (Light Detection And Ranging) uses laser as a mapping tool

It now seems that DHS is looking at using 4 contractors to to do “aerial remote sensing services" to the tune of $50M.

From Govt. Security News.

The chosen vendors will be asked to collect aerial imagery using digital cameras in what are known as “vertical” or “oblique” renditions to support emergency and non-emergency incidents nationwide.
It also seems that the FBO link for the solicitation is broken and the "error has been logged".

Here is a link to a art contest using LIDAR.

Check out the details this shit can see.

According to Infowars

LIDAR spy technology, which uses ultraviolet, visible, or near infrared light to track objects or people from the sky, has been used in Iraq and Afghanistan to track insurgents. The US military has praised the technology for its proficiency in providing “battlefield surveillance” and being able to easily locate enemy combatants due to it being “especially useful at seeing through foliage.” LIDAR can be deployed using both manned and unmanned aircraft.

The U.S. Air Force “has already deployed an unknown number of LIDAR aircraft to map all of Afghanistan,” reports MSNBC, with the 3-D laser mapping technology also being adapted to work aboard U.S. Special Forces helicopters such as the Blackhawk or Chinook to help hunt insurgents.

According to Raytheon, one of the companies that develops LIDAR, the technology is adept at tracking “people in crowded environments for safety and security,” because unlike traditional surveillance methods, LIDAR is honed to measure characteristics of individuals and keep them tracked within a “grid cell” so they cannot evade detection.

So there you have it.  DHS wants to use this to hunt those pesky domestic terrorist bugs and pop a can of RAID on them.

Prepping on the Cheap

Patricia, at Rural Revolution, has a good post on cheap prepping.

Stop by your local grocery store (Walmart) or bakery and see if they have any plastic buckets (food grade) to get rid of.

The beauty of bakery buckets

Back in our naïve days of preparing for Y2K, Don and I bit the bullet and bought 24 five-gallon buckets with screw-on gasketed lids. These have been superb buckets and we still use them, but they were expensive. Bakery buckets are a far better deal.

Bakery buckets are quite literally a prepper’s best friend. For the last couple of years, I’ve made it a policy to stop at our local grocery store’s bakery department and inquire about buckets. Sometimes there aren’t any available (others beat me to them), sometimes there’s only one or two, and sometimes I hit the jackpot.

Busting Bubbles

Bubbles can't last forever.

They float around on the air and hit some grass & pop.

They get blown like the above pic and pop.

Balloons filled with He float up-up & away, but only go so high before they pop

Sovereign Man offers up this info on bubbles.

But is that all a bubble is– simply meteoric growth, seemingly with no end in sight? If so, let’s examine some other ‘bubbles’ in our society.

Grand Theft Alien

WTF!!!

On average an illegal immigrant family gets $1800 of my tax money for filing a return on  a stolen SSN.

That is HORSE SHIT.

There are an estimated 11 million of these trespassers that are here in 2011.

via yahoo
Republicans are looking to deny child tax credits to illegal immigrants — refund checks averaging $1,800 a family — in an effort that has roused anger among Hispanics and some Democratic lawmakers.

The proposal, which would require people who claim the federal credit to have Social Security numbers to prove they're legal workers, is being offered as a way to help pay for extending the Social Security tax cut for most American wage-earners. It would trim federal spending by about $10 billion over a decade.

LT. COL. DANIEL L. DAVIS

I spent last year in Afghanistan, visiting and talking with U.S. troops and their Afghan partners.

What I saw bore no resemblance to rosy official statements by U.S. military leaders about conditions on the ground.

Instead, I witnessed the absence of success on virtually every level.

Movimento Dei Forconi

Middle class Sicilians are not standing for a "Grecian" formula style meltdown.

Many of their ideal and complaints mirror ours here. It's almost time to shit or get off the pot.

The arrest of all corrupt politicians
Reduction in the number of Parliamentarians
Removal of the provincial bureaucracy (local crooks), as most of these politicians have been there for over forty years
Drastic cuts in the salaries and privileges of Parliamentarians and Senators
Restricting politicians to only two terms in office

They shut down the island of Sicily in 3 days.  Maybe we need to take note and apply here?

Grass Roots Revolt
Today is the third day of protest in Sicily. The island is almost paralyzed. In the island are protesting truckers, farmers, fishermen, craftsmen associations and merchants.

NASA & the Bridge: A Tale of Sheer Stupidity

You would think that if they can fly shit into space, land it on a different planet and drive it around, that they could measure the height of the boat and drive it under the bridge.

I like this quote.

How about the damn thing was to tall??????

More .GOV incompetence.

I wonder how much they will suck from my wallet for this oops.

via yahoo

Two spans of the Eggner Ferry Bridge at US 68 and Kentucky 80 were destroyed Thursday night by the Delta Mariner, which was too tall to pass beneath the structure. No injuries were reported on the bridge or in the boat, which was carrying rocket components from Decatur, Ala., to Cape Canaveral Air Force Station in Florida.

The ship was traveling up the Tennessee River on its typical route to Florida's Atlantic coast when it hit the aging steel bridge, which was built in the 1930s and handles about 2,800 vehicles a day.

The U.S. Coast Guard is investigating the collision. And it's too early to speculate on exactly what caused the wreck until that probe is done, said Sam Sacco, a spokesman for ship owner and operator Foss Marine.

Pig Stick'n...Can you do it?

I came to this from Knuckledraggin.

Matthew brings up some very good points on blade work.

If it came down to brass tacks, could you kill someone with a blade?

Knife work is down & dirty.  You will get bloody & it has a distinct smell.

Are you ready for it?  Can you do it?

You best make up your mind & quick because practice time is a tick'n away.

Here are the links.  Good reads with lots of pertinent info.

Read them more than once, that's how important they are.

PART 1

To what extent are you willing...and capable of saving your life? If no gun were available could you ...would you...are readily capable of doing so with a knife.

Would you slit an attacker's throat?

Could you use a knife to filet three inches of forearm off of a rapist, a serial killer?

Can you descend to that primal place of fight at bad breath distance and prevail?

PART 2

Everything about fighting starts inside your head.

Gun, knife, or hands. It makes no difference.

The response that begins in your head flows to your hands

President Obama will ignore an order by an Atlanta judge to appear in court Thursday for a hearing in a case challenging his qualifications under the Constitution to be president.

Jablonski states that while waiting for Kemp to do as requested, “we will, of course, suspend further participation in these proceedings, including the hearing scheduled for January 26.”

“To the extent a request to withdraw the case referral is procedurally available, I do not believe such a request would be judicious given the hearing is set for tomorrow morning,” the Kemp letter states. “Anything you and your client place in the record in response to the challenge will be beneficial to my review of the initial decision; however, if you and your client choose to suspend your participation in the OSAH proceedings, please understand that you do so at your own peril.”

Global Supply Chain Security

DHS is making a push to control all the marbles.

They want to control the food movement, fuel movement, building materials movement, etc.

Get it while you can, because we may not be able to soon.

Secretary Napolitano Unveils National Strategy for Global Supply Chain Security

Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano today unveiled the Obama administrations National Strategy for Global Supply Chain Security at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. The Department of Homeland Security is committed to facilitating legitimate trade and travel, while preventing terrorists from exploiting supply chains, protecting transportation systems from attacks and disruptions, and increasing the resilience of global supply chains.
We must continue to strengthen global supply chains to ensure that they operate effectively in time of crisis; recover quickly from disruptions; and facilitate international trade and travel, said Secretary Napolitano. As a part of this effort, we look forward to working closely with our international partners in the public and private sector to build a more resilient global supply chain.

The National Strategy for Global Supply Chain Security outlines clear goals to promote the efficient and secure movement of goods and foster a resilient supply chain system. It also provides guidance for the U.S. government and crucial domestic, international, public and private stakeholders who share a common interest in the security and resiliency of the global supply chain.
