Vietnam vet reunites with soldier he saved 42 years ago




A good friend and co-worker had some great news for Memorial Day.

It was a reunion 42 years in the making.
Joel Prothro and Jerry Sisler smiled and hugged each other at Granbury's Memorial Day parade.
It had been four decades since their paths crossed in Vietnam when the two were attached to the Army's 199th Light Infantry Brigade.
"This is the good doc — the medic that treated me when I was wounded," Prothro bragged.
Prothro was a 21-year-old Army solider when was seriously injured after walking into an ambush. He received shrapnel wounds to his abdomen and leg, and was lying on the ground when Sisler — a combat medic — found him.
"He crawled on top of me as there were explosions above us and shrapnel raining down," Prothro recalled. "He crawled on top of me, or I would have been hit again."

  1. Thugs on drugs can be hard to stop/kill.  Black dude took 4 rounds and kept pushing the attack.  A EMP strike to the hard drive would cause a system fault if the opportunity presented itself.

The Blue Ridge moonshining trade has changed significantly in the last century.  Far fewer people are involved in it now, though today’s bootlegger is able to distill more alcohol with less work than his counterpart of the early 1900s.  Modern moonshine is made with vast quantities of sugar and relatively little grain.  Contemporary bootleggers have little or no experience with the apple or peach brandy so common in the late 1800s.  Stills are now often hidden under roof rather than in fields or mountain hollows.  Today’s moonshine buyer is far more likely to live in a major eastern city than in the small southern mill towns and coal camps of the past.  Even so, the old-time mystique of the Blue Ridge moonshiner prevails.

A 21-year-old woman who was shot in the hip by a Colorado homeowner after police said she drunkenly wandered into a house now faces a felony trespassing charge, prosecutors said.
Ripple apparently ignored warnings from the couple that they had a gun and walked into their bedroom. Homeowner Timothy Justice fired one shot in the darkness, police said.

Northside Independent School District plans to track students next year on two of its campuses using technology implanted in their student identification cards in a trial that could eventually include all 112 of its schools and all of its nearly 100,000 students.
District officials said the Radio Frequency Identification System (RFID) tags would improve safety by allowing them to locate students — and count them more accurately at the beginning of the school day to help offset cuts in state funding, which is partly based on attendance.

The report from Good Jobs First, a nonprofit taxpayer watchdog organization funded by Ford, Surdna and other major foundations, identifies 16 states that let companies divert some or all of the state income taxes deducted from workers’ paychecks. None of the states requires notifying the workers, whose withholdings are treated as taxes they paid.

General Electric, Goldman Sachs, Procter & Gamble, Chrysler, Ford, General Motors and AMC Theatres enjoy deals to keep state taxes deducted from their workers’ paychecks, the report shows. Foreign companies also enjoy such arrangements, including Electrolux, Nissan, Toyota and a host of Canadian, Japanese and European banks, Good Jobs First says.

Sanford judge rules in favor of motorist who flashed his headlights

A judge in Sanford ruled Tuesday that a Lake Mary man was lawfully exercising his First Amendment rights when he flashed his headlights to warn neighbors that a deputy had set up a speed trap nearby.
 
He was ticketed Aug. 10 by a Seminole County deputy, but Kintner alleges the officer misapplied a state law designed to ban motorists from flashing after-market emergency lights.
Circuit Judge Alan Dickey earlier ruled that that state law does not apply to people who did what Kintner did, use his headlights to communicate.

On Tuesday the judge went a step further, saying people who flash their headlights to communicate are engaging in behavior protected by the U.S. Constitution.

The doctoring Wednesday was part of a military program to provide free health care in poor areas of the South and whose latest mission came to one of Alabama's most impoverished regions, where the teams have treated more than 12,000 people in less than two weeks. The work helps fill a gap in an area with few doctors and a multitude of medical problems, many of them linked to the obesity that is rampant in the state.

Drones may soon be flying over Austin crime scenes.

Officers spent the day in College Station learning how to use the technology.
At first glance, it looks like a child’s toy.

It’s actually an $80,000 military drone. There are 250 of these models being used in Afghanistan. 

Manufacturers of the unmanned aerial vehicles or UAVs are now marketing them to law enforcement.
Members of the APD Technology Unit traveled to Texas A&M to learn how to use them.

Officers expect the FAA to limit the flights to a height of 200 feet with the restriction of always keeping the aircraft within view.

With a battery life of about 30 minutes, officers say flying it around the city would be impossible.

Giving Somebody the Finger

JACKSON, Mich. -- A Michigan teen finishing off an Arby’s roast beef sandwich chomped down on something tough that tasted like rubber, so he spit it out.
Turns out it tasted like finger. The fleshy, severed pad of an unfortunate employee’s finger, apparently.
Ryan Hart, 14, told the Jackson Citizen Patriot on Wednesday that once he got a good look at it, he knew right away what had been in the junior roast beef sandwich he was eating last Friday.
"I was like, ‘That (has) to be a finger,"’ Hart said. "I was about to puke. ... It was just nasty."
The employee apparently cut her finger on a meat slicer and left her station without immediately telling anyone, said Steve Hall, the environmental health director for the Jackson County health department. Her co-workers continued filling orders until they found out what had happened, he said.

HOUSTON – Dozens of people have gathered outside the Harris County Courthouse protest the not guilty verdict in the Andrew Blomberg trial.
Blomberg, a former Houston cop, was on trial for the videotaped beating of teen burglar Chad Holley. A jury cleared him Wednesday.
The protesters carried signs, chanted and prayed on the steps of the downtown courthouse.
Several black activisits spoke to the crowd.

Old Memories

How many of us remember riding in one of these.  My parents had this exact model.







Riding in the very back was the seat we fought over.

We had a '74 Delta 88.  Man I could lay full out on that.


No seat belts.  

My dad had a '76 El Camino that the 5 of us used to ride in.  



Hell he used to put a camper shell on it, take out the back glass and we would take family vacations.  Us kids would ride in the bed.  The only thing we worried about was hitting our heads on the camper top roof and having to pee in a cup cause dad didn't want to stop.


So I saw this pic on the UK Daily Mail and it brought back a lot of old & good memories.

Regal Entertainment is no friend of Liberty

If anyone has a theater in their area, they may want to think twice about using their facilities.


This comes via TTAG.  A theater that they own in Indiana refused to let someone open carry in the theater.

Two weekends ago I attended a showing of The Avengers at the Regal Shiloh Crossing Stadium 18 in Avon, Indiana. I’d open carried at this theater several times with no problem. When I went to buy a ticket at the window the ticket taker asked me to leave my weapon in my car. He made this “suggestion” over the microphone in front of about fifty people. I asked to speak to a manager, who confirmed that this was the theater’s policy.  So I called their corporate offices to make double sure that this was indeed their position . . .

I had a lengthy, cordial and somewhat strange conversation with a gentleman at the corporate offices.  I would be hard-pressed to relay the conversation other than to note that his impression of legal firearm owners was exceedingly poor. I would imagine most of his information came from a source indistinguishable from The Brady Campaign.

When I suggested that he was missing out on making his theaters safer by allowing legal firearm owners to carry he made several disparaging ‘gun toting yahoo’ type remarks and insisted that allowing guns in the theater would keep the theater from being a ‘family friendly’ environment.

If anyone feels compelled to let them know how you feel.

Stocks declined in the final hour of trading Tuesday following a report that a transcript from the Greek meeting showed deposits leaving the banking system, fueling speculation that the nation might leave the euro zone.
According to the transcript, Greek depositors withdrew 700 million euro from the nation's local banks recently, said President Karolos Papoulias, though the exact timing of the transfer was unclear.

Yesterday morning while stopping at a gas station to put air in my tire, I was approached by a stranger. The first words out of his mouth were to ask “if I was from around here,” immediately sending me into condition orange.

I’d like to explain my statement earlier about condition orange and provide a brief example of the Cooper Color Code here for reference. We’ve previously mentioned Colonel Jeff Cooper here on ITS, in regard to his carry conditions and firearm safety rules, but he is also known for advocating a color code to describe a person’s state of mind. Not so much in regards to a level of alertness, but purely the mental state.
The following comes from his book, Principles of Personal Defense:
  • Condition White – You are unprepared and unready to take lethal action. If you are attacked in White you will probably die unless your adversary is totally inept.
  • Condition Yellow – You bring yourself to the understanding that your life may be in danger and that you may have to do something about it.
  • Condition Orange – You have determined upon a specific adversary and are prepared to take action which may result in his death, but you are not in a lethal mode.
  • Condition Red – You are in a lethal mode and will shoot if circumstances warrant.

Patriot group targets Bank of America

Bank of America, the nation's largest banking institution, is under fire from a patriot group for various infractions, including a corporate stance against the Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, according to Justin Combs of Arctic Patriot.

Combs is one among several concerned citizens who are circulating a declaration that calls on Americans to close their accounts, sell their stock, and cease doing any business at all with Bank of America.

While Combs states that Bank of America is not the source of the problem in the banking industry, it is a big part of it due to its sheer size and its willingness to throw its weight behind politicians who work to undermine the protected rights of the people as delineated in the Constitution.

Of particular concern to Combs and others who have signed the declaration is the bank's contention that gun rights are not consistent with its official Code of Ethics, according to the posting at Arctic Patriot.
Bank of America's top executives are donors to the Barack Obama campaign.

Among the infractions listed in the declaration is Bank of America's takeover of Merrill Lynch, for which it received $118 billion dollars in a government backdrop to purchase the rival corporation, and another $20 billion dollars from the taxpayers in a bailout in 2009.

According to the New York Times, the banking giant had already received a capital infusion from Treasury before taking the added $20 billion:
The second lifeline brings the government’s total stake in Bank of America to $45 billion and makes it the bank’s largest shareholder, with a stake of about 6 percent.
In addition, the declaration states that Bank of America illegally foreclosed on the homes of active service men and women, for which it paid a settlement out of court in the amount of $20 million dollars. 

According to Combs, the motivation for the group's actions against Bank of America is the belief that currently in the U.S. there is a fuzzy line that separates government from large mega-corporations, and that in order for the nation to return to its founding principles such a line must be clearly drawn that separates the two.

The unity and partnership of government and large corporations is one facet of fascism, a totalitarian system in which individual citizens have few rights in lieu of the collective rights of government and large business entities.

Another of the nation's largest banks, JPMorgan Chase, is also under fire for squandering at least $2 billion dollars within the last month, in spite of a massive government bailout in 2009.

Our actions to restore our nation to its original founding principles are coming to a crossroads. We have been divided in our efforts through an inability to focus upon one issue as a whole. Most of our efforts have been (and still are) focused on the 2012 elections and political ideologies. Our nation was founded on Liberty, not political power and agendas. We need a tangible goal now to show that patriots (not partisans) still control our destiny. One goal, one victory will show that We the People are in control of Liberty’s future.
We believe that the recent events surrounding the Bank of America can become this goal to win our first battle. This institution has decided that the 2nd amendment of the Constitution of the United States is not in line with their bank’s code of ethics. We understand that this amendment’s purpose was to protect us from an abusive government. It appears that they feel it may be used to protect us from abusive financial institutions as well. And they may be correct: the distinction between government and financial institutions in our country is gone.
The Bank of America is the country’s largest bank with assets of $2.3 trillion. This bank currently has $75 trillion in credit derivatives.
Here is a list of additional grievances:
This financial institution has been found guilty of laundering South American drug money in 2006 ($7.5 million settlement).
They received $20 billion in US Treasury support with an additional $118 billion government backstop to buy Merrill Lynch.
They failed to properly disclose employee bonuses and financial losses at Merrill Lynch before shareholders approved the merger of the companies: $150 million settlement with the SEC.
Bank of America Illegally Foreclosed on Active Service Members’ Homes. Settlement agreement was $20 million.
Their purchase of Countrywide resulted in a loss of $65 billion to stockholders.
They paid $335 million to settle Countrywide’s housing discrimination claims.
They paid $410 million to settle a class-action lawsuit affecting more than 13 million Bank of America customers who accused the bank of charging excessive overdraft fees for electronic transactions.
Bank of America moved approximately$18 trillion worth of derivative obligations from Merrill Lynch and the BAC holding company to the FDIC insured retail deposit division. This transfers the risk from the bank to the taxpayers since the FDIC cannot cover this amount.
Their executives are major donors to the president’s reelection campaign.
The president will give his acceptance speech for the Democrat nomination for president at the Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte.
Warren Buffett injected $5 billion into Bank of America for special considerations for stock warrants and a 6% annual return for ten years. This bank's regular personal savings account pays 0.05% annually.
We propose the following actions to be taken immediately:
1. Close out any personal or business accounts with Bank of America.
2. If you are a business, do not accept their debit or credit cards for purchases.
3. Sell your personal stock in this bank.
4. If your retirement or mutual fund owns stock in this bank, request that they divest it from their portfolios.
5. Help spread this effort in any manner that you can.
6. Fill out the form at this link showing what actions you took based on this project.
No institution has maligned the principles and morality of our nation as the misnamed Bank of America. It is past time to stand up with actions instead of words.
