1891 Triple Barrel Shotgun

The custom gun makers in the 1800's and early 1900's are some of the most beautiful works of art.

via Mail Online

It was made for Scottish aristocrat John Adrian Louis Hope, who became the first Governor General of Australia in July 1900.

But with its three-barrelled ejector and three triggers, the 16-gauge gun was so complicated that no more were ever made.

The unique weapon was last seen in the public eye when it was sold to an un-named bidder for £43,000 at Holt's Auctioneers London last month.

Father kills man caught molesting his four-year-old daughter

This about sums up what I would have done.

via KHOU
SHINER, Texas—A father beat a man to death after catching him molesting his four-year-old daughter, according to the Victoria Advocate.

Lavaca County Sheriff Micah Harmon told the Advocate that in the process of stopping the man from molesting his daughter, the father struck the man in the head several times, killing him.
The case remains under investigation and no charges have been filed, nor arrests made by Sunday afternoon.

How to Peen a Scythe Blade

I saw this and thought of Miss V.

Some good useful info to have and be able to use.

Peening lies somewhere between the art of jewelry making and blacksmithing. You are using the hammer to redistribute the metal ever so slightly. Think of the steel as a very dense modeling clay that can be coaxed into shape by moderate repetitive force. Heavy hammer blows are unnecessary. A firm yet sensitive strike that makes a good solid sound is your goal.

Lots of valuable info HERE as well and tools for the job.

So there's this drunk in a skidder.....

Man what a night at work.

You can't make up stupid shit like this.

So I was sitting here at work when there were some faults on the transmission lines from Shepherd to Cypress.  These are substations on the transmission line route.  These are 138KV lines that you see crisscrossing the countryside.

The fault was big enough that it caused the breaker to lock open and this caused one of our substations to go dark.  The fault was located around the area in the map.  Just so happens that the center of the below map is where a road, rail road tracks and transmission lines intersect.

One of our linemen calls me and says that a buddy of his saw a drunk joyriding in a log skidder and tore down one of the above structures.  It and the lines hit the ground on the road and across some R&R tracks.  Big mess.

You gotta love an inventive drunk.

Like I said you can't make up crazy shit like that.

Homemade Ballistic Mask

I came across this site, The Post Apoc.  It has  some good, but different, ideas.

He had a post up where he built a ballistic mask and then tested it against some different firearm rounds, not while wearing it.  See the vid.

The concept and build are cool and offer some insight & ideas for some DIY projects.  On a side note, I didn't know that kevlar fabric is cheap, so to speak, at $20/yd

I once saw a kevlar ballistic mask in a tactical catalogue for $400.  I’d just finished playing through Army of Two, an Xbox shooter in which the protagonists wear heavy body armor, including ballistic masks.  So, naturally, I thought “Sweet!  I want one!… but not for $400 effin’ bucks.”

Thus, I decided to build my own.  First, a base.  I thought about starting with a plaster mold of my own face, but I wanted something a little stouter – something inherently designed to take punishment, but also light weight and simple.  I found a vintage street hockey mask on ebay for $10.

Sawmill Niggers

How many of you from the deep south have heard the term "Sawmill Nigger"?

How many of you think it refers to a lazy black person who works in the saw mill?

After the jump is a picture of a sawmill nigger.

Bean Counters Anonymous

Looks like DoD is going to do a inventory of all .mil equip they have passed out to all the Barney Fife's.

via The Blaze
The Defense Department has stopped issuing weapons to thousands of law enforcement agencies until it is satisfied that state officials can account for all the surplus guns, aircraft, Humvees and armored personnel carriers it has given police under a $2.6 billion program, The Associated Press has learned.

The department’s Defense Logistics Agency ordered state-appointed coordinators in 49 states to certify the whereabouts of that equipment that has already been distributed through the long-running arrangement overseen by the agency’s Law Enforcement Support Office. The temporary halt on transferring weapons applies to all states, agency officials said Thursday.

Makes you wonder if the shit was even hand receipted to the departments.
The military decided to conduct a “one-time, clean sweep” of all state inventories instead of reviewing them piecemeal, said Kenneth MacNevin, a spokesman for the federal agency. While some gear, including guns, has been stolen or otherwise gone missing over the years, MacNevin said the reporting requirements themselves aren‘t new and that the review wasn’t prompted by anything specific.

If they were following the regulations then there should be the yearly inventory submitted.  I bet the adjustment is going to be a real bitch. Lot's of stuff just disappearing.
8–11. Inventory management
The ACP participant assumes responsibility for the safe handling of weapons and ammunition and for accountability of ammunition. An annual reconciliation of weapons will be initiated by the ICP. A monthly inventory of ammunition will be conducted by Federal ACP and State agency ACP participants; quantities on hand will be reported to the HQ, JMC, ATTN: AFSJM–CDA, Rock Island, IL 61299–6000 (see AR 710–2 and AR 740–26).
If they HAD conducted yearly inventories, then the records would not be difficult to reproduce or locate as most records and inventories are electronic now days.
The Illinois Department of Central Management Services, for instance, said it would take its staff members at least 500 hours merely to review the records requested by the AP.

In a letter dated May 24, the military notified the state of Florida that it had failed to certify that a “complete (100 percent) physical inventory” of weapons, aircraft, Humvees and armored personnel carriers was completed in 2011

This is for Curtis and Kenny
A report in March by California Watch, which was founded by the Center for Investigative Reporting, found that California police accumulated more equipment during 2011 than any other year in the program’s two-decade history.

Getting Old Really Sucks

UPDATE:  6/8/12

Thank you Craig, Brock & Miss V for the kind words.

Today thanks to time, the new anti-inflammatory pills and God, I can walk and move around.  Two full weeks I was not able to function as normal.

This is something I would only wish on an enemy at best.

Nasty shit it is.  Damn glad I'm over it.

*******

I remember family reunions.  Sitting around as a youngster, listening to the gray haired folks tell stories from their younger days.  Fascinated by their stories.

How many of you remember an old aunt or uncle having gout?

How many of you have experienced gout?

For the past 2 weeks I have the wonderful experience of gout.  And let me tell you, it sucks.

The Friday before last I spent about 4 hours in the garden.  That evening watching the boob tube, I had a slight pain in my ankle, like needing to crack your knuckle.  No biggie, my ankles pop & crack all the time.

Saturday morning at 5am my alarm went off.  I popped out of bed from those days of reveille or a trash can banging DI at basic (trainer for you young pukes).  Old habits die hard.

So up I jump and down I go.  Hit the floor with a loud "FUCK"

I manage to drag my ass up and to the bathroom to "try" the 3 S's.  My ankle is swelled a little but hurts like a MF.

I some how make it to work by 6.  By this time it aches all the way up to my hip.  Not that simple panging pain, but a deep bone ache. It was so bad I contemplated calling my boss and telling him to find someone to get their ass in.

So fast forward to yesterday and 4 days in bed.  For a week and a half I have been hobbling around with a serious limp.  As in I can't flex my ankle. Tylenol, Naproxen and Ibprofen don't cut this shit.  My ankle is swelled up so big that my toes can't touch the ground when my foot is flat and they look like Vienna sausages.

I can tolerate quite a bit of pain, but this is a deep bone aching pain that try as I might, there was no way to push through it.

I gave in to my wife's nagging a head to the doctor.  Nope, not broke or sprained.  You have GOUT.

He wrote me a anti-inflammatory for gout and vicoden for the pain.

The morale of the story is that if I needed to respond to something, I was screwed.

I was completely immobile.  No shuffle, maybe crawl or hop.  Another words, a sitting duck.

So there comes to mind that thing Bill's been harping on......LocalLocal,    Local

Because when you you really need help, folks 60 minutes away, hell 30 or even 15 minutes away are just too far.

Better Odds than the Lottery

Real Life Bob Bullard

How many of us have read Braken's trilogy, Enemies: Foreign and Domestic?

Most of us, I imagine.

Remember the ATF thug scum Bob Bullard of the novels?

It looks like he is a real person.

via Balko

Meet Seattle PD Capt. Donnie Lowe. Last week, Capt. Lowe was arrested on domestic violence charges. He also has a prior DWI, a prior investigation for using excessive force against his own son in a jail cell, and improperly entering a private home. None of those prior incidents were enough to remove him from the force. In fact, back in 2009, just a couple months after his DWI, and well after the other incidents, then-lieutenant Lowe was assigned to head up a special Seattle PD security detail for President Obama’s inauguration. He has since been promoted.

It gets better.

So it's just a matter of time before he get's brought up from the minors by his sugar daddy .

Keep you eye on this one folks, I look for him to be a real up & comer in the OP/Sup game (oppression & suppression).

6,000 MRAP's Coming to a Street Near You

As the invasions of foreign countries in the Fertile Crescent winds down.  There is an expected excess of 6,000 MRAP's of various configurations.

These along with numerous other .mil systems are going to be deemed not needed as they are non-standard equipment and will be given to the .mil jr's called police departments .

via WP

Through 2011, the Defense Department bought and fielded more than 27,000 MRAPs, according to the Government Accountability Office, which on March 31 sent Congress a briefing on how the Army and Marines are trying to determine what equipment designed specifically for fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan should be retained and what should be discarded.
How to handle nonstandard equipment is an issue bigger than MRAPs, however.

For example, as part of its post-Iraq-Afghanistan transition work, the Army since 2004 has reviewed 409 equipment systems, according to the GAO. Of those, only 11 percent have been determined useful for the future, including MRAPs. Thirty-seven percent of the systems under review have been deemed “not needed and should be terminated,” according to the GAO. The remaining 52 percent, on which the Army has made no decision, are nonstandard equipment being used in Afghanistan and other overseas operations and paid for with OCO money.

Sometimes it hard to tell the difference between .mil & .leo now days.

It's gonna get a lot harder.

Georgia College Girl Arrested by ATF

Set up?????

More than likely.

Another reason not to say shit to cops.
'It's my hobby to blow things up.'

via Daily Online
'I despise all law enforcement and any governing authority,' she writes. 'I am not one for selective targeting but mass destruction.'

The weapons were discovered after an army of law enforcement officers - from the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the FBI, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation and local law enforcement officers - searched Savage's home in the woods.
Savage allegedly told an FBI agent she has made up to seven pipe bombs as 'manufacturing explosive devices and detonating them for recreation was her hobby', an ATF report noted.

"RAE is taking crisis initiatives throughout next week to avert the collapse of the natural gas and electricity system," the regulator's chief Nikos Vasilakos said.

RAE took the decision after receiving a letter from the Public Gas Corporation (Depa), which threatened to cut supplies to electricity producers if they failed to settle their arrears with the company.

Vietnam vet reunites with soldier he saved 42 years ago

A good friend and co-worker had some great news for Memorial Day.

via WFAA
It was a reunion 42 years in the making.
Joel Prothro and Jerry Sisler smiled and hugged each other at Granbury's Memorial Day parade.
It had been four decades since their paths crossed in Vietnam when the two were attached to the Army's 199th Light Infantry Brigade.
"This is the good doc — the medic that treated me when I was wounded," Prothro bragged.
Prothro was a 21-year-old Army solider when was seriously injured after walking into an ambush. He received shrapnel wounds to his abdomen and leg, and was lying on the ground when Sisler — a combat medic — found him.
"He crawled on top of me as there were explosions above us and shrapnel raining down," Prothro recalled. "He crawled on top of me, or I would have been hit again."

2 lessons in this video

There are 2 lessons in this video.

  1. Thugs on drugs can be hard to stop/kill.  Black dude took 4 rounds and kept pushing the attack.  A EMP strike to the hard drive would cause a system fault if the opportunity presented itself.
  2. It shows how much the citizens care about LEO's.
No one helps this LEO.  It was reported that the person shooting this vid didn't even call 911.

Anyone surprised.  I'm not.

Chasing the Lightning

Take time to read this rich history tale.

Many games of cat and mouse were played.

Fortunes made and lost.

All through out the nation moonshine stills can be found.  Some areas had more of the running that other.

This is a trade that has been happening for centuries all over the world.  Yet it is the American way that has made legends.

It would make one hell of a movie.

Enjoy

The Blue Ridge moonshining trade has changed significantly in the last century.  Far fewer people are involved in it now, though today’s bootlegger is able to distill more alcohol with less work than his counterpart of the early 1900s.  Modern moonshine is made with vast quantities of sugar and relatively little grain.  Contemporary bootleggers have little or no experience with the apple or peach brandy so common in the late 1800s.  Stills are now often hidden under roof rather than in fields or mountain hollows.  Today’s moonshine buyer is far more likely to live in a major eastern city than in the small southern mill towns and coal camps of the past.  Even so, the old-time mystique of the Blue Ridge moonshiner prevails.
